About the role

Shopify’s Marketplaces team is making marketplaces better for our merchants, so they can reach buyers anywhere. We want to power marketplace experiences everywhere with Shopify as mission control for any merchant and we need your help to do it!

We’re looking for a Senior Manager to help us tell our story to merchants and developers who want to sell on or build new Marketplaces. You’ll manage a growing Marketing UX creative team that spans design, writing, and production (video and motion).

In addition to supporting the professional growth of the team, you’ll be responsible for the overall creative direction for the merchant experience across a variety of channels. You’ll push our storytelling to the next level through tone and voice, visuals, interactive design, and rich media. You’ll work closely with developer marketing and product teams across the company on strategy and team-wide initiatives, processes, and rituals—contributing to a culture of excellence and a best-in-class experience for merchants. 

As a senior leader at Shopify, you’ll also collaborate with leadership across Merchant Services and UX on internal and external initiatives that propel our work and practices forward.

And finally, as a Digital by Design company, you’ll do this all remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Own the overall creative direction and UX for developer and merchant engagement, from marketing campaigns to world-class docs 
  • Guide the build of new properties, microsites, and other experiences that make Shopify the world’s best platform for merchants 
  • Lead, inspire, and coach a multi-disciplinary team of Marketing UXers, including content designers, brand designers, and front end developers  
  • Advocate for creative and UX best practices and partner with other marketing and UX leads across the company
  • Grow the Marketing UX discipline within Marketplaces through hiring and leveling up current team members
  • Leverage a deep understanding of merchants and developers to guide the creation of top-notch experiences
  • Work with leadership to manage priorities for the team
  • Build trust and relationships with senior and executive leadership across Shopify
     

Qualifications

  • You’ve got a track record of building exceptional experiences across a variety of mediums and channels (and a portfolio to back it up) 
  • You have 5+ years of experience as a creative leader, with a passion for investing in, developing, and supporting your team and their growth 
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills that persuade and inspire others
  • You care about the big picture as well as the tiniest details when it comes to quality content and design
  • You’ve built and led multidisciplinary teams, including design, copywriting, front end development, and project management
  • You have experience partnering with agencies to get world-class results
  • You lead from the front, with a vision and strategy for the future that delivers today
  • Your teams consistently ship high-impact work that balances beautiful design with attention to detail
  • You have experience using data and research to inform decision making and measure outcomes
  • You are a leader in your community, building thought leadership inside your organization and beyond
  • You’re familiar with accessibility frameworks and standards
