Combining timeless designs with vivid colors, fresh twists, a dash of sparkle, and a pinch of playfulness, Confetti by Annette is a line of fashion jewelry designed with the spirit of celebrating yourself and your life every single day.
Each piece is designed and handmade in our Los Angeles studio using quality materials resulting in refreshing and unique designs.
Confetti by Annette is a result of taking a leap of faith to find work that I love doing. A few years ago, I resigned from my job as a lawyer at a national law firm. Although I love the intellectual challenges of the law, my life was starting to feel a bit, well, beige. I longed for more art and color in my life and wanted to create something with my own hands that would deliver joy to others.
Once I started paying attention, I realized that my interest in jewelry had been there all along, expressing itself in subtle ways: using my allowance as a child to make necklaces from beads I bought at the local bead store; getting lost in the curated collections of Bulgari and Cartier during weekend visits to the museum; finding the perfect rhinestone ring collecting dust in a shelf corner of a Paris flea market; or simply taking that extra minute to complete my wardrobe with a statement necklace before I left for work.
How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?
Initially, sales came from my friends and contacts who were there cheering me on as I pursued my dream. I have also seen a lot of traffic from Facebook which integrates nicely with my store after installing Shopify's Facebook app. Live events like trunk shows I do called "Confetti & Cocktail" parties and shows like Unique LA have also brought me new customers.
Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?
Using Shopify's mobile app and card reader has been a great addition to my business. I love that I can conduct business from anywhere with an internet connection and my phone. I also use some of their apps to help streamline parts of my business - such as Mailchimp's Chimpified which helps with collecting and maintaining mailing list subscriptions and Yotpo for soliciting and showcasing customer reviews.
What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?
(1) Just start. There are a lot of great themes to help you get your shop up and running. Don't get too caught up in the design of your website. You can always change it as you go along.
(2) Ask for help. Although I found Shopify's themes easy to use, there was some functionality that I wanted to include that was beyond my technical expertise. A lot of information is provided in the guides and forums and you can always connect with a Shopify expert who can help you out. As a business owner you have to manage a lot of moving parts so get help when you need it.
(3) Step away from the computer. When running an online store, it's easy to stay glued to your computer. I have found that most of my success has come from stepping away from the screen and getting out there connecting with people face to face.
